Your absolutely correct. Taylor's ideas need to be incorporated into the public school system. High stakes testing is failing our students. Taylor is a genius but also too idealistic. Most parents would be a total disaster home schooling their child. Many children who have been home schooled return to public school within one year. He should have never left the school system, he should have stayed and made significant changes to public schooling.

There is no guarantee except that the state will indoctrinate the child. If we want an organized system of true education it should center around answering questions that arise in the minds of children, not in sitting them down, shutting them up and forcing them to adhere to someone else's arbitrary curriculum.

Violent force, that is: coercion.

There are no guarantees, but the billions saved from ending public schooling would go a long way towards parents paying for tutors & towards real charity. There's no telling what market forces will provide, except for the fact that they are guaranteed (haha) to provide better solutions than force can.

I agree with almost everything that he says. However, if children would be better off home schooled, what is the guarantee that the parents or community has any knowledge of value to teach their children? What are the alternatives should the parents not know how to read or do basic math for example?

I am glad to see that others have attempted to correct "Alex" on Dewey.
