This mantra is called "Daimoku" that means "title" (of the Lotus Sutra). Nichiren, Father of the Daimoku chanting practice, devoted his life to preach & propagate the Lotus Sutra.

"Nam" means to consecrate one's life to...MyoHo Renge Kyo means "Sutra of the Lotus Flower of the Wonderful Dharma". It is the title of one of the last Sutras taught by Shakyamuni Buddha. On it, He preaches that all living beings have the Buddha Nature, basic principle that enables them to reach Enlightment. In the 16th Cap. Shakyamuni reveals himself as the Original and Eternal Buddha.

I agree deirdre and buddhababe. Please check back to the first comments made to me regarding this issue of 'kyo' and you will see that it was not me who started all this example of indignity towards the LAW. I find it very suspicious how the person attacking me needed to do it in here and not through private messages. But anyway.... :o)

The sources of your karma are what you think (mind), what you say (mouth), what you do (body). The best karma you can generate is minding the highest truths of the Buddha in your mind, expressing your faith on it loudly (mouth), and keeping a right attitude with your body, straight back and palms of your hands together expressing your faith.

Advise to seafarers:Don't grasp the peel losing the pulp. Don't reduce Nam Myoho Renge Kyo to just "good vibrations".Daimoku I devote my life to the Lotus Sutra is a declaration of faith in the highest truth taught by the Buddha: The Lotus Sutra itself. |
