The thing is that airsoft bb's are so light that they they lose most of their velocity by the time they reach 20-30 yards, so you need at least 400fps if you want to snipe. I myself have fought airsoft snipers (one with this very gun), and I must argue that it is practical since I can never get in range to hit them. Although I have seen safety glasses withstand a .3bb at 375fps, you are correct in saying that close range at these speeds is still dangerous.

very good vid but honestly, sniper rifles arent in the least practical for airsoft... plus most well organized airsoft groups will not allow you to us your gun if it shoots over 400 fps...its just to dangerous cuz there is always someone that you cant count on to not shoot you within 50-75 ft and bb's start to enter the skin and break goggles above 400 fps
