Noi, the trainer for this elephant, Hong, talks to her continuously while she is painting. They have a wonderful relationship as they collaborate in creating this art.Hong has never been mistreated. Any type of mistreatment or coercion is counterproductive to the fine motor control needed to produce this art.

It appears that the trainer standing next to her is guiding her trunk through touch.It's still amazing but I hope they didn't put her under a bunch of stress or threaten her with pain in order to teach her this ability.That is how they usually train elephants after all.
