What I am saying to you is this TQ - dont blame it entirely on the people for feeling ripped off, because they were and a lot has been lost because of it. The real problem is the system & dodgy legislation put in place purely to legitimize the purchase of land.

Firstly, dont think your avoidance of answering the point I made has gone unnoticed.And secondly, I never said I wanted compensation for anything. I just want it to stop. What is done is done. I just want everything settled & for it to no longer continue. But that doesnt mean I dont understand where the grievance many feel comes from. I feel it too, but i put my faith in karma - let the forces beyond my comprehension deal with those who have acted wrongfully against their own kind.

And another thing - you haven't had to suffer like your Scottish ancestors did - so you odnt know what its like. You never grew up in Scotland immediatly after that time did you? No. Its different for us because we still live here! Our lost land isn't some place overseas that we've never seen before, it is here! This is a different matter to the one you describe of yourself.

Yes but how distant ago are we talking? 2-5 hundred years? That is a bit of a way back. But what about less than 40 years ago? You know that shit was still going down then. Over the years yes, things tend to settle, as they must. But our wounds are still fresh torque. People who these things have happened to are still alive! Im not talking ancient history here, im talking like the 70's, even the 80's! U cant expect people to just dust stuff like that off as if it was nothing & 'get on with it'

My distant Scottish ancestor was kicked off his land by some greedy English property developers, perhaps I should make a claim for compensation to the British Government. Or should I should I consign history to the past? Considering no Brit ever ripped me off personally and those property developers have long since croaked, I think I'll make my own way in life. Two distinct philosophies here.

Yes most land was sold, but the systems in place back then allowed many shareholders to sell of large quantities of land that didnt rightfully belong to them. The government at the time was corrupt in allowing these systems to operate. Id like to see someone in this day & age try and sell off land that he only has 1% entitlement to. I know what you're going to say - blame it on yourselves. But come on, that government let it all go down nice & smoothly. U cant blame ppl for feeling ripped off

The 1st of September was the final date for historical claims (mostly land ones). Contemporary claims can still be made I think.

Haha, you've really fired up the old fulla in this one PN (thats you btw). I have never seen TQ this riled up. He very rarely swears like this when he's serious. What you have to remember though with this one is that he cant differentiate between Maori who are down in the dumps, those who are actively aggressive and those who are independent/self-determined. He just groups us all together. With TQ, you sometimes have to remind him that we're not all like the Heke's in Once Were Warriors, lol.
