What some do not realize about the Romans is that they were strongly Hellenized by the time of the Greek conquest. The Romans emulated the Greeks in art, literature, religion, and thought. Emperors Augustus & Hadrian spoke Greek more often than Latin. As Horace writes "Though Greece was captured, she in turn conquered her untamed conqueror." That Rome was more powerful than Greece is only to be expected from such a vaster empire, but the Greek is proud to know that he had helped it leap along.

Of course later on the capital of the roman empire went on to be Konstantinople, which became the "eastern" part of the empire, where Greek replaced the latin and then became the BYZANTINE empire, which as we all know was essentially a GREEK one and whic lasted for over 1000 years ;)

Honestly, I have no problem at all with Greeks. In all honesty, I love Greek culture and am planning to visit some day. I never meant to get in a pissing contest with these two guys. They just got bent out of shape for some silly reason.

Yeah, because they were led by Regulus, on the other side Scipio Africanus beat the shit out of Hannibal, mercenaries, elephants and everything included. His bro Lucius Asiaticus gave some greek love to the armies of the seleucid empire. And the macedonian Phalanxes of Philip V were no match for the romans in Cinoscephalus. Not bad considering the romans were the new kids on the block back then Mr Skaramanga.
