Just incredible. There is so much more in that arrangement of Oh Susannah than is immediately perceptible- some crazy harmonies in there, 4 to 5 to 6 note chords on an American folk song sung by an Eastern European choir. Wonderful stuff, and on the most unlikely show. I love that the audience is into it. Thank you so much for this post.

I absolutely love "Ерген деда" and listen to it quite often. It's sad for me to see amateur high school choirs try to sing a song like this, and even worse try to effect their unique vocal technique which comes across as shouting in every instance I've seen on Youtube. (And in the case of BYU Noteworthy, tacky and obnoxious choreography.)Some very special stuff these women do.

when i studied music, this gruop was part of the creative lesson because the words they use are actually made up "bulgarian" babble. they used words to suit the tones, melodies and key. one of your comment posters is bulgarian, and could only pick out a few words. mmitak

The way this is sung I can barely understand what they are singing (just the odd word here and there), and I am Bulgarian. I think that being able to make your hair stand up just with the sound of it *is* the magic of the Bulgarian Voices

PolishPunk04 said:Could you imagine seeing this today on L*** or L********? Nobody would watch except Bulgarians and people with good musical taste. Much credit to C***** for having diverse acts on frequently. It seems like the more time passes, the more Americanized we all get and forget out true roots such as this. Thank you for posting, from a Pole to a Bulgarian.
