the German V! never left the atmosphere, it had a pulse ram air motor that used a kerosene based fuel..British fighters could "catch" them in flight and touch wings and 'flip them"..go read a good book, or wikipedia V1 German rocket..yes the V2 could and did, could reach a height of 63 miles...
