May 2006The West's demand for Cassiterite is fuelling the killings in Congo. Militias rely on slave labour to extract the ore, forcing locals to work in sub-human conditions."Once you get down there, there's no air", describes one worker. "The rocks often bury us and you have to crawl through the tiny hole, using your fingers to dig." Labourers like him often go unpaid. They're forced to work at gunpoint by militias operating outside the control of the government. "Different armed groups do what they want with the population", laments minister Buta Muiso. But British businessman Ketankumar Kotecha sees nothing wrong in buying casiterite from the militias. "If I didn't do it, someone else would. I am not here as some kind of moral saviour."

Actually, the Congo alone counts more than 280 tribes, and it's one country out of more than 50. The entire Africa comprises of more than a thousand tribes and languages! Colonialism played a huge part of what Africa today is. Think about it... If the Chinese came to the US/Canada/ Or Europe and imposed their way of life (at least their judicial, economic, educational,.... systems) do you think you would be able to say what you just said? I don't think so! That's what Africa is today!

Blame is always placed on early colonialists for drawing artificial borders. At least there was building, order and relative peace then. In reality, it does not matter where borders are drawn. Africa is comprised of roughly 350 tribes. Many of the tribes distrust or even hate each other. Those feelings in many cases have been with them since before colonialism. Because of this, Africa will always have several regional wars in progress.

The temptation is to use a the construct of intelligence to explain brutality. I hope you will someday get beyond that. When King Leopold II turned DR Congo into a vast labor camp, he murdered over 10 million people. The central police station was decorated with skulls. The hands of children were chopped off to encourage the desperation-driven hunt for rubber, which made the king and Belgium obscenely rich. Superiority, inferiority is a seductive explanation, but not the only one.

The thing about inborn skill is that it is not yet developed. Something can be "made" to measure it; doesn't mean it's actually accurate.

This is so fucking sick, why the hell hasn't our government been doing anything about this, these past few year if it has been going on? Thank god Obama is now president, he might be able to solve this conflict.

The IQ tests are made not measure your experiance but your inborn skill's, and are different from country to country.

Africa is just a waste of time.

I know for a fact that Africa is a place where people do not see the need of self improvment. They seem not interested in improving their country but fighting each other for nothing. China should rape Africa for its natual resources and then run away. Africa is no good. As for 50 years Africa has recieved over $500 billion and nothing has changed.
