The Segway is a spin-off of the iBot which is a powered wheelchair with the same balancing system, but you control it with a joystick. It also has 4 wheels and can climb stairs. A segway is a lot cheaper than an iBot though.

I have beckers MD and would love to replace my permobile with a seated segway! Trying using the tilt actuator from a permobile powerchair so that you can rise and lower between sit and stand postition. Make the seat more versitile so that part of the seat can be easily removed from it's base in order to transfer onto a toilet, chair, bed, carseat etc. Then I will buy it today! Mike

this looks cool but it would only work for paralized people who can lean back and forth

I'm with you. I'd love to see a version where you can sit or stand--maybe a removeable seat? I can still walk, but do so very slowly to avoid tripping and falling (can't get up by myself). My husband thinks a segway would be a great option.
