Based loosely, of course ... over the years, despite loving the songs and plot and all, I've come to read a good bit about how inaccurately Anna Leonowens portrayed both Thailand (Siam) and her own role. That said, Peabo and Lea do a lovely job of singing this song, and at least Tuptim is being played by someone from the same part of the world. (Poor Rita Moreno ... so talented and yet never able to earn a fair shake in this role!)
