It's just the sounds seem inconsistent with what's happening. They're either too much, or not enough, if that makes sense.

I think the video is about the union of the two and the small sounds from the dancers adds a nice element to the whole.

Billy Joel, of all people, said in a radio interview that he heard the opening motif of Beethoven's fifth as "open the door" (to the romantic geniuses whose work he felt was the culmination of of the humanistic endeavor).I think we all agree that Billy Joel is a cheesy motherfucker, but Reich was also deeply influenced by Beethoven especially the fifth symphony, and I think what we are hearing here is the door being shut.

This is a great piece of music(despite what some berks may think), but I'm not sure if I'm keen on the choreography. I don't know enough about dance to comment, but what I found really exciting about "Come Out" was that it was an "active" listening experience; I think the dance focuses on certain rhythms and distracts the listener from picking out rhythms / melodies, themselves. RE: minidrags nitwit: I've watched your videos, go and get a sense of taste before you make such ludicrous remarks!

I play the cello and piano and we learnt about minimalism in music and yet this is still the worst piece i've ever heard and that's exactly what everyone else in the damn class thinks (and the teacher). So, it's not meant to be enjoyed, it's just 'different' and 'new'... like modern art.
