Its leaders include media-mogul Sondhi Limthongkul (สนธิ ลิ้มทองกุล), Chamlong Srimuang (จำลอง ศรีเมือง),ธhe secretary of the Thailand's Federation of Government Owned Enterprise Labour Somsak Kosaisuuk (สมศักดิ์ โกศัยสุข),The Professor at Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University Somkeit Pongpaibul (สมเกียรติ พงษ์ไพบูลย์), and former ISOC leader Pallop Pinmanee (พิภพ ธงไชย). It was one of the chief players in the Thailand political crisis from 2005 to 2006. The PAD consists of middle and upper-class Bangkokians and Southerners, supported by the conservative elite, factions of the Thai Army, and state-enterprise labor unions. The People's Alliance for Democracy has been re-established in Thailand on March 28, 2008 at Thammasat University auditorium. Several issues was raised by the PAD, including the Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej ties to Thaksin Shinawatra (ทักษิณ ชินวัตร), ties between some People's Power Party members and the banned-Thai Rak Thai party, and attempts to amend the 2007 Constitution. Among the amendment proposed was removal of Article 237 which would dissolve a political party if one of the executives was involved in vote buying. Yongyuth Tiyapairat, People's Power Party executive who was also the Parliament president after the election, was being tried for vote buying. Yongyuth was later found guilty by the Supreme Court on July 8, 2008.Demonstration by PAD started on May 25, 2008 at Democracy Monument on Ratchadamnoen Road to protest the proposal for constitution amendment. The rally attracted ten thousand supporters. As the rally went on, PAD announced their effort to collect signatures to request removal house representatives and senates who supported the amendment on May 30, 2008.The next day Samak expressed on government-run NBT television channel his intention to dissolve the rally by force. In reaction to Samak's speech, PAD issued announcement against the government's move.

"Two more persons believed to be guards of the anti-government People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) were arrested yesterday for possessing weapons without permits. The arrests followed Sunday's arrest of two other persons, also believed to be PAD guards, for possessing three hand grenades and other weapons." (The Nation, Nov. 11, 2008)

"Police arrested two men Sunday in possession of homemade low-explosive 'ping-pong' bombs and other weapons including hand grenades and handgun ammunition.Police also found PAD guard identification cards, and they said the duo confessed to being volunteer guards for the Peoples' Alliance.Mr Sondhi said that one of the two was formerly a PAD guard but was dismissed by PAD core leader Chamlong Srimuang some time ago because he tended to use violence when on duty."(Bangkok Post, Nov. 10, 2008)

Domanter, err... how can one overthrow a country? So, if you think DEMOCRACY is only meant for 4 year term and then new election, you should learn more about democracy.Democracy doesn't stop at the outcome of the election and let the politicians do anything they want to the country without listening to people.Nobody has anymore rights than the other. ..The exact reason PAD has been doing is for the love of our country. We didn't vote for them to manipulate the power!

they pantarmarn had to understand what "DEMOCRACY" means because they are not doing that, they want to overthrown the country, also one of them asked me to join and they said they will pay me 5k baths per month, how's that the "GREAT" people? they went there for money and get free food. You gotta learn the word DEMORCRACY and follow the rules, after 4 years then there will be another election, rules are rules, don't break them if you love your country.

About the elected govt...In the past, even up until now, most Thais do not trust the electoral process. They believe that the electoral process can be easily exploited by vote buying through the patronage system. They view the democracy as nothing more than money politics.Protesters view that they buy votes and hope to form government and run the public office. Once in power, they try to recoup their investment from the election.

To: Raynilson1, kelli, tnayahporn....The politicians are the liabilities of our democratic system. If the politicians are clean and really work for the progress of the country, there wont be any street demonstrations. They cant be brought to jail easily because Thailands rule of law is slow.....
tanyahporn (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
TO kelli19940607.....These Pantamit guys are professional protestors, their boss is oppossition party.Besides, most of the protestors are jobless, pensioners and uneducated fellows.
