Yes, I did say this interpretation is "dry". Of course, it's all a matter of perspective, which is why I also specified in using the phrase "to me" that is was in fact MY perspective. Obviously your perspective is different. About your comment on "listening and hearing" - I, for one, would rather listen than hear. After all, listening requires paying attention. And in listening to this performance, I find Michelangeli to be more about form than emotion. And that's how he rocks.

Emotionally passive? Wow! Michelangeli's interpretation - dry? Yet again-Wow! There are myriad colourations and an entire universe of minute emotional flitterings on display here. Can you not detect/sense/feel/hear them? Perfect technique is merely the tip of the iceberg here. Listening and hearing are of course poles apart. Please post comments upon that which you are TRULY HEARING and bear in mind the old maxim that writing about music is like dancing about architecture

Impressionism means rather than expression through realism you evoke emotion. So in music it is pointless to categorize anything thus. All music evokes emotion rather than realism...well at least it's supposed to.

Stephan Jarocinski said that it's very difficul describe as "impressionist" a kind of music...he considered Debussy's music much symbolist than impressionist...

Some of Michelangeli's interpretations seem very dry to me (I see other people think so too), but I feel that the dryness works in Debussy's music, since his music seems so passive emotionally. Too dry or not, I can definately appreciate Michelangeli's perfect technique regardless.

interesting question, whether or not debussy is an impressionist. of course he totally refuted it... its so hard to define musical impressionism though. am trying to do so for an essay at the moment. any good definitions?
