"...otherwise 90% of Americans would have a mental illness..." isn't an argument explaining why caffeine addiction isn't a mental illness. Perhaps 90% of Americans do have a mental illness; perhaps the prevalence of caffeine is a much bigger problem than we realize. Maybe in the future people will be shocked to learn how many of us were caffeine users.
