I also discovered that "Megaguirus" (from the 2000 "GODZILLA vs. MEGAGUIRUS")was NOT a NEW Toho creation in that film---that creature made it's debut in 1957's "RODAN" as "Meganulon". (In the Japanese version, they are called such in the script, and are also mentioned as 'Dragonfly Nypmhs'.)

I was amazed when I saw the wires for the first time on the DVD as well(I guess NOTHING escapes DIGTAL REMASTERING). But, at the same time, when I look back at it, I'm still proud because Tsuburaya-sensei was ambitious enough to pull off the illusion back-in-the-day via 'suitamation'---and not thru the tedious process of stop-motion. Also, hats off to Harou Nakajima-san for actually donning those bigass suits and doing those stunts. His RODAN is the most vicious.

I love the fact you can see the wires on Rodan in the new DVD Double feature with War of the Gargantuas. Shows you how wonderful the print is and even with its flaws. I much prefer the American version though. It's more fast pace for me.

Invite Rodan to level WA DC. Hed do a better job than a nuke.

Rodan is going to be release on DVD next month and it will be bundled with War of the Garanutuas and a new doctumnary by Classic Media for the price of 19.95.

Alot of the FX shots here looks unfinished compared to the film. And Kenji Sahara isn't a bad actor at all, it's hard to tell under a dubbed voice, but after seeing Space Amoeba, The Mysterians and this, he isn't a bad actor at all. QUite good actually. Either way, thank you childhood nostalgia and the poster of this trailer. So much happiness.

I'd be interested to find out just how different the Japanese version of this film is to the American release.

I agree. Rodan is arguably just as influential as Godzilla was. Even here in the States, this was considered by critics among the better of Toho's giant monster films.

This is the most underrated Inshiro Honda flick, people always seem to bless the original Godzilla and the Gargantuas, but this flick goes right up there. |
