Being amoral doesn't get you out of the situation. He had a responsibility to those people his technology ended up killing, and he failed to account for it. That's we he should not be honoured.

Werner von Braun was faced with a choice, give up his life work or become a nazi and allow many, many people to be killed with technology he developed. He made the wrong choice.

The history of space travel would be different if Robert Goddard had been as adept at promoting his ideas in the 1930s as von Braun was in the America of the 1950s? Braun and other scientists claimed they used Goddardideas and were amazed America ignored Robert Goddard

I am opposed to Nazis but Wernher von Braun was no Nazi. He invented the space rockets, and so built our modern world. Moon landing, Space Shuttle, weather satellites, cell phones, even GPS...all inventions made possible by Wernher von Braun.

IDK. Wernher von Braun wanted, more than anything, to build rockets. He didn't care who it was for as long as he had the chance. That's the way I look at it. He is at fault for thousands of deaths, but we do owe him quite a lot of gratitude.
