I am very much afraid that Hitler will remain man of that century. The romantic figure of Winston Churchill, towering indeed, could and can be understood. Hitler however remains intangible, despite so many serious endeavours to understand him.Especially the industrial annihilation (with the help of German doctors and lawyers) of the Jews was unprecedented; it scattered the myth of a country of poets and peasants and it has changed our moral ideas forever.
