maybe you just haven't listened to enough Lovano to be able to recognize how thoroughly melodic he is.... and maybe you should think of the fast notes as shapes, not just licks...and that they just accentuate the melodies that he plays...like starting at 2:58 in this video.I could go on forever about Lovano...i guess I'm pretty biased. Check out the ablum "Quartets," and you'll hear what I'm talking about.

The album "I have the room above her" (Paul Motian) shows a very lush and relaxed side to Lovano's playing.... check it out, beautiful contemporary/modern stuff. also feat. Bill Frisell

I've always had a problem with Lovano, he only seems to be happy playing really fast licks.I find his sound quite raspy as well, prefer a more Rollinsy sound.any thoughts? |
