But he snapped his neck. What does an open face helmet have to do with it? Or are you talking about the hans device because after his crash that device became mandatory. Right?

actually beleive it or not the gforce ratings from this crash were not that impresive. Because of the angle the car hit and the rolling motion the energy was dissipated gradually. |
