In 1936, when Amelia disappeared, she was flying a Lockheed Electra, strictly a mechanically operated plane. It took real muscle to physically control the plane. She was awesome. An inspiration to every woman.

I bought the History Channel biography on Amelia Earhart after watching this vid a few dozen times.

elsewhere i read that Matheny was 18-19 when this happened. Is that right? He was pretty damn good. He had to be to stand next to Joni.

I love this song. In a few days we start a Tribute to Joni in Berlin and I will play this song. It is georgious.

I can play this, but live far, far away. It's an open tuning, just tune to E so all strings sound like the chord. The rest is just bar-ing the frets and strumming, with an extension here and there (hammer on and off) to augment. Great Vid, wish there were more that show her playing close up, it's an invalueable source for mimics like me. :-)

A true artist at the height of her powers... stunning.

I saw this concert on late night TV in the UK back in the late 70's when we were all immersed in the New Wave. I have been deeply connected to her music ever since. Her voice was one I already knew from somewhere, not new, more like finding something lost. I bumped into her the other week in Vancouver airport (the second time our lives have randomly crossed) What a pleasure, can't think of it without glowing.... genius, pioneer, catalyst, and a simply lovely woman. |
