Yes of course thats what it generally symbolises, but the relevance on this specific occasion was to honour former AB captian Dave Gallaher who died in battle in France in 1917 and also was around about the same date as Armistice Day.......but anyway.

No not exactly. It's a poppy, which is our national symbol for ANZAC day. We wear it to commemorate the fallen ANZACs (Australia & New Zealand Army Corps) in WW1.

The red thing is a poppy flower to represent france and NZ in the world wars.
