Lovely ecoli Durban beaches. Born and raised in Durban but I'd never go back. Place is a dump with a useless city manager who has fucked up royally with the Blue Flag organisation...way to go chase the tourists away

HOWEVER..... What made myself and other Durban people really angry was the fact that authorities once again didn't care about us, All they cared about was the Inland people (Holiday makers from Johannesburg)and if it wasn't holiday season they would have left the damage. You Joburg people didn't know f*** All of what happened here.NB: Notice they only interviewed the holiday makers? Who cares about you, Durban people SHOULD have got FIRST preferance.

Yes i lived in Durban for 8 years, that was the worst storm ever, sounded like a plane engine was outside my window. 12 windows broke and 3 highways closed for flooding.+ allot more damage which wsn't in ym area.

Don't want to get picky, but that means they're not tidal waves. That makes it a storm surge. Tidal waves are solitons,you get one with each tide... otherwise known as tidal bores. Like the Pororoca, the Mascaret, the Severn Bore or the Quiantang Silver Dragon. Tidal wave/Bore= caused by tide alone. Storm Surge= caused by storm swel ,usually brought ashore by the tide. Tsunami=surge caused by massive ,sudden displacement of water (like the boxing day tsunami)

Thats exactly what they are - Tidal waves, this was a tidal surge coinciding with the March equinox, a cyclone and a cold front with north easterly winds.

Wow.. pretty fierce storm surge . I used to live in the area, just back from Marine Parade.On a technical point, they're not tidal waves, which are, by definition, generated by the tide.
