well it wasn't meant for darfur but they were doing john lennon covers on instant kharma and when the made the video i guess they wanted to get a message across about darfur. but it kind of is if you think about. green day either was wrong comparing this song to darfur or they just made this song in memory of john lennon and thought that he as a person would agree with the darfur cause

i agree - when Lennon wrote the song it was on a completely different story, namely the struggle of the middle class workers. However, i believe green day thinks it adapts to darfur in some verses because they took the lines quite literally, like "they tortured and scared you for 20 odd years". Another reason could be that for those in darfur, aspiring to be a middle class hero, would be a wonderful aspiration compared to what they have to deal with? *shrug* just my two cents |
