Most common types of plastic have been mass produced after the 1930s there were variation proto-types as far back as the 1800s but not by any means the kind used for the silly level of consumer output we have seen since the 1950s. "40 years later" is refering to 40 years after that quote from "The Graduate" He never said "plastic was invented in 1968" Check your facts "dude"

dude are you stupid? plastics been around for 144 years and scientists still don't know how long they take to break down, realize that every peice of plastic that has every been produced will be around for the next thousand years or +++more, whats the point of making single use, throw away products that last forever ???it's ok if people like you lose your ability to reproduce in the future. as for the rest of us with average and above intelligence, we hope to out breed the idiots out there

Um... plastics enable us to live the lives that we live now, how about we increase plastic production, and find some way to recycle it? Thats better than just stop using them because no matter what we do they are everywhere

I'm promoting unplastic Green bags -NOT polyethelene--the crap sea turtles mistake 4favorite food--jellyfish. Biobag is veg-resin, sinks, no floating nurdles,can pass through fish etc.without DEATH...victims of swallowing and suffocating from undigestable plastic, doesn't solve the toothbrushes,'trinkets' from Wallyworld, packaging, etc. Green Plastics! Boo to polyethelene--we have the tech, all can be replaced with veg-resins.
