I completely agree with you, but Netrebko seems to have vastly improved those faults on her latest recording (Bellini's "I Capuletti ed i Montecchi"). Schwarzkopf sounds ravishing here, though.

What nonsense! This is a lament in which the Countess is telling us that her husband has fallen out of love with her. Schwartzkopf is completely in that role. She is very sad, that is why her tone is unsteady. She is acting her part as well as singing the aria and doing it beautifully.

I don't agree with totally trashing Netrebko, but I'm glad someone has finally pointed out her tuning problems. She seems to have trouble sustaining a steady tone. This does not mean that her singing is completely worthless of course.... |
