Hughes269B (not homebuilt) April 26, 1987 N101DN Pilot was 58yo Cline Hogg. He saved money for over 20 years to buy this helo. The instructor was late getting there, and he couldn't resist and couldn't wait any longer. He started it, ran it up and raised the collective without releasing the cyclic friction.Cline Hogg continued to reside in Fontana until 2002 with his wife, Zee. He passed away in Geneva, Ohio, on November 19th, 2006.-from the check-six website. Google "Hogg and N101DN"

As my instructor said so many years ago: "Imagine we're hanging from a 200 foot long line. When you move cyclic forward, the line is now tied in front of you, so you neutralize the cyclic and swing forward. To stop forward motion, you move the cyclic back and neutralize again." Obviously, the guy was trying to fly the chopper like an airplane instead. All he had to do was take one hour of instruction and probably have prevented this crackup.

I can't stand idiots that miss label videos. I didn't realize that hughes sold homebuilt aircraft

The N# is N101DN. It's a Hughes 269 (TH-55 Osage). The airframe is no longer in service obviously after this. It was sold in Oklahoma, probably for scrape and parts.

gee whiz, why so angry? there is (or at least used to be) a kit built replica of this helicopter. Not saying this is it, but could be. look in some older (91-96) kitplanes and you'll see advertisements for it.

The fucktard who posted this needs to do a little research next time. Anyone who thinks this is a homebuilt needs to be shot in the face. And I hope it happens.

Can this guy be put up for the Darwin Awards?
welderman27 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I seen this guy on tv it was crazy the trainer was late to teach him to fly so the owner thought he'd take it up on his own and well thats what happens with no experience. I think the trainer swore to never ever teach this guy to fly after this happend

Do they offer these at amusement parks now? Looks darn fun... Put a mat down and you'll have 100,000 a day! |
