There's another product listed on the front ofMr.Godfrey's desk.."Lipton's Frostie". That was an instant desert mix that was nothingmore than a rip off of"Junket Rene's Instant Custard"desertmix.

Dear From The Sidelines,That's true!Mr.Godrey never followed the scripts for his sponsorsproducts. He did his own plugs and he made them honestand fun. Which didn't endear him to the sponsors or to theheads of CBS Radio & TV.

That's true to a certain extent, but it just tells part of the story--there's a wonderful video here at You Tube (taken from a documentary broadcast)called "Arthur Godfrey and the firing of Julius La Rosa" that goes into the firing in much more detail. I highly recommend anyone who's interested to check it out--it's only about 5 minutes long.

Furthermore, Arthur Morton Godfrey was not all that good-looking; he looked like a recalled parking meter, in my opinion.

The reason why he turned on Julius, is that Julius signed with an agent and Godfrey did not deal with agents, concerning his employees, who were the cast of his show. When he heard he hired an agent, Godfrey fired him and did it on the air waves.

They were, 'Steve'- but that Tuesday morning, the simulcast ended at 11:15am(et); "ARTHUR GODFREY TIME" was only telecast for 75 minutes on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at the time. Arthur wanted as little publicity as possible concerning his on-air "release" of LaRosa, so he decided the deed would be done on RADIO only, at the end of the program. The tape of that final 15 minutes exsists, so we can hear exactly what happened- "Thanks ever so much, Julie. That was Julie's swan song with us..".

The TV and radio show were simulcast.

I just had some lipton soup from an envelope. Shit tasted like chicken flavored glue.

I won't mention what happened between him and Julius LaRosa, 'Kind', but I'd like to point out that happened on RADIO, not television...about five minutes before the end of Godfrey's daytime CBS radio show, October 19, 1953.

I just finished watching the film A Face in the Crowd, with Andy Griffith. It's a great film based on the life of Arthur Godfrey (I just found out). It's a great story about media manipulation and the power of television. I think there's a good lesson to be learned today, in a world where manufactured boy bands and "teen queens" like Ashlee Simpson/Avril Levine are raking in millions from all the 13 year old girls in America who are so easily manipulated.
