Watching this for the, oh, eleventh time or so, I didn't really notice the blond on the contrabass -- usually don't spot too many women playing them. Very attractive, though. She's quite good, and Abbado's bowing gestures to them are fantastic.

I agree with some of the things that you have mentioned. However, out of the three sketches that are included in "La Mer" I think Debussy needed a final movement that achieves something more than "floating without feet" while there were some parts in the piece that were very flowing, the end of this piece would lose so much credit had it not been so vigorous and powerfull. I think the interpretation of This symphonic piece was simply spot on.

Not well played at all. Despite the beautiful sound of all musician, perfect articulation, this one is missed. Abbado en fait trop! Le mystere de Debussy a disparu, la surprise aussi! Toutes les notes sont tirees comme du Bhrams, alors que cette musique doit flotter. Abbado is over playing that music, that kills the mystery. All the notes are pulled liked it is Brhams, while this music must be without feet like Debussy said, somewhat floating not stuck on the ground with 200 pounds!!!

Para mi es el mejor final q he escuchado, te hace creer q la obra va a terminar una y otra vez, es inquietante. grande Debussy por este ragalo a la humanidad.

Magnifique interprétation d'Abbado.Personne ne dirige mieux cette musique que lui, à part Boulez.Que dire de " La Mer " ? C'est un miracle de la musique, au même titre de " Pelléas ".
