wow the arguing in here is amazing. both are right both are wrong. on a flat face or dished piston the majority of force is centralized. in nature force is always exerted in a circle with energy reducing as it travels out. read why the hemi was created and you will fully understand the point in a hemispherical piston that evenly distributes the combustion along the piston top.

how does the outside circumference of the dome/face/top of the piston control oil. come on now. if you have oil in the combustion area....detonation is sure to follow. the piston skirt does NOT pick up oil from the sump. do you work on gokarts or some shit? you realize these motors have windage trays and oil control systems in place to keep oil AWAY from the rotating assembly. if the piston needs cooling the motor will have squirters. i really think you need to go back to john deere school.

the "dome" can also be called a face too. you originally said the skirt only holds the piston straight, then said it does nothing... with out the skirt the piston wouldn't hold psi for long.you sir are a walking contradiction, while the "dome" does one thing, acts as surface area for combustion. and the outside edge does oil control, combustion control, keeps the piston straight, cools the piston, picks up oil from the sump and even holds the piston on..... count em

the top of the piston is typically reffered to as teh dome, even if its flat. if the skirt is what is holding the pressure in, you have a serious problem. the skirt just keeps the piston upright and does the least work. the top of the piston does all the work. the top of the piston does shit for keeping it straight, or spreading oil. thats the oil control rings job. the skirt doesnt support anything. you are just a fool. go back to racing ur john deere for christs sake.

not all pistons have domes....how in the hell do you think the wrist pin attaches and you even said thiers a thin spot in your post... read what you just said!!!... lol the outer edges/skirt area of the piston does more work then the center. the edge holds the pressure in, keeps the piston straight, and spreads the oil at the same time... the center... just handles the pressure.with the skirt supporting the edges... and the center being less then a 1/4 thick most times... :S

are you serious? the piston is thinnest at the dome? lol um. thats that part of the piston that does all the work. the center of the top of the piston has a relatively thin spot compared to where the wrist pin in. but of the pin is pushing up, and the force of the explosion pushing down where do you think that leaves the ring lands. pinched. you are a tool. get off the net and gain some real life experience. fucking moron.
