The Keystone Cops was a series of silent film comedies featuring an incompetent group of policemen produced by Mack Sennett for his Keystone Film Company between 1912 and 1917. The idea came from Hank Mann, who also played police chief Tehiezel in the first film before being replaced by Ford Sterling. Their first film was Hoffmeyer's Legacy (1912) but their popularity came from the 1913 feature The Bangville Police starring Mabel Normand. However, as early as 1914 Sennett shifted the cops from starring roles to background ensemble, in support of comedians like Charlie Chaplin and Fatty Arbuckle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt00... a farm near Bangville, the young daughter see strangers in the barn. She quickly rushes to the house and calls the police. The police engage in a haphazard rush across the countryside to get there in time.

It always weirds me out, when i see movies where all living paticipants, animals and humans, are now dead, having said that, old movies often have a lot of story quality.

Yep, that's definitely Mabel Normand. Another silent Hollywood female legend with a tragic story behind her. She died at 35. There seems to be a lot of them. Thelma Todd and Jean Harlow come to mind.

That's the jazz I remember from New Orleanw where I grew up. Is the first lady Mabel Normand? My grandmother used to play piano for the silents. On opening night, they usually had a band or an orchestra play the score.

I use to watch the Keystone Cops every morning whilst waiting for the school bus (keeping an eye on the time by a table clock). One particular morning, the show was running long, I turned the clock back 20 minutes so I would have enough time to finish watching the show and still be able catch the bus....ah, childhood innocence.
