I would have thought anyone piloting a B52 would have known and avoided the type of technical issues that caused the plane to crash. What a sad day for those families related and also sad to lose another legend of the skies. I wonder exactly how many B-52's still exist, not counting the ones in the Nevada graveyards??

'sbinsdca' I am a pilot, the problem wasn't really the fact that he was low. As you increase your angle of bank your stalling speed increases. Basically he was flying to slow and banking too steeply. He stalled and was going into an incipient spin (the nose began to yaw left). Even if he'd been at 1000 feet he wouldn't have been able to recover in time. maybe if he was in a Cessna 152 he could but not in B-52

Agreed. I'm not a pilot... but I know how an airplane stays aloft (pressure differential created by air moving over a horizontal wing provides lift). I thought the first turn at such low altitude was dumb... the second one I knew it was going down. What was that pilot thinking??

My Uncle Bill Blue shot the second shot in the video. He sold the footage to NBC for over $10,000 and gave the money to the families of the crew. He is a Major General in the Air Force.

...And that concludes today's demonstration of pilot stupidity.All I can say is that this is a live demonstration of air stall as a result of diminished wing surface by flying at a 90° yaw.
