I just laugh at people who like to argue that Corelli's version was better....or "more heroic"...what a joke...Corelli couldn't hold a candle to Pavarotti...his hamfisted stiff and starched dilevery was painful to listen too....it was like he was fighting with the piece...some people mistake this forced quality for a heroic sound....sadly it is nothing more than bad singing....notice how the versatile Pavarotti handles this piece with such ease....

From the forte b-flat "ergerti (dim)un trono vicino al sol" (pppp), and then (ppp)"un trono vicino (dim) al sol, un trono (pp) vicino al sol."There is no dim. on the last phrase and Verdi instructs that Rhadames goes from pppp to pp and inflects "morendo".So whether it is attacked full voice then reduced to a head tone or started with a light head tone and taken to a full voice chest tone b-flat; or simply sung as pp. is all up to the performer.

Es increible, he visto a muchos de los grandes tenores cantar Celeste Aida, en la Scala, pero a ninguno sostener el Si bemol, y pasar del forte al piano,interminable, un fiato impresionante, y un dominio del diafragma fuera de serie, Luciano eres lo mas grande!!!
