Yes. And about the "unless you read the book" thing; guess what, Sherlock? Arthur C. Clarke colaborated with the director of the movie, obviously he wants it to be as close to the book as possible, and it is.

couldnt disagree with you more. its a masterpiece of filmmaking, and quite easily one of the best movies ive ever seen. you just cant be expecting a normal movie, since this is far from normal. the plot is incredibly open, which forces the viewer to think about it. as for how slow it is, who decided that a movie had to get to the point as quickly as possible?

Yes, its a different kind of movie as in its completely over hyped. Everyone always makes such a big deal about it, when there's nothing to make a big deal about. Its wayyyyyyyyy too drawn out for one thing, and the plot (what little plot there is) you can barely get unless you read the books.

This part was always my favorite in the movie cause of the way Kubrick told the story in the film, he was ambiguous and tried to let the movie tell the story in it's own thoughtful and cerebral way. You knew Dave was going into another time and dimension but what it was you didn't know, and that was the cool part of this movie cause the mystery made it even more awesome.

No, not over hyped, not at all. It's just a different kind of movie, this is not about cool shootouts or super heros that save the chicks...

I don't understand how anyone could watch this more than once, I barely even got through that. It just drags on showing you nothing... It really is incredibly over hyped.

I don't think it's absolutely necessary to read the books to understand what's going on. Watch it a couple times and you'll start to get it. I do wish Kubrick had been a bit more clear in this, but it's usually his artistic nature to be ambiguous. |
