i think only the people who clap r the ones who say thank god we're finally on the ground, or nice landing. but if thats not it then idk, what do we do when we crash land in water, boo?

Wy do people clap while landing ???. If the plane is in a emergency landing, and it lands savely !, that is a very good reason to clap. (and to chance your underpants)

I think the clapping ritual is lovely. We've come to take flying for granted, but really, it's quite something that we've been able to get something that heavy off the ground. Took many years of trial and error to perfect it.

Landing is the most difficult part of flying. Even if we all know that it is safer to fly than to cross the street, landing an iron tube with metal wings with up to 855 people behind you, is a blessing few get to experience. Hats of to all the pilots!

For those who highly critizise Italians for clapping each time they're on a plane that's landing is just ridiculous It's a way to say Thank you Lord for experiencing a safe flight.I'm not Italian,although lived there for years,and let me add that it's one of the most beautiful and quite moving scenes I ever witnessed in my life...
