Yes. It's confirmed that Getz did prefer harder reeds. Being a hard reed player myself on Alto, you do get more of a *chirp* in the attack. Getz said he liked the idea of having to work harder for his sound, which was ironic cause he's known for how effortless he does it.On another note, Bird was another hard reed player, and he had a *chirp* at times. *not those Savoy sessions though* most of that was plain bad reeds.

The slight "squeak" that Stan is chirping is the result of the use of a reed that may be just a little too hard, or too green. Be that as it may, he still sounds like "The Sound". He probably could have broken in his reed a little more before this performance, but does it really matter?
